I have had a Toro GTS Personal Pace lawnmower for the past 5 years or so.
Every spring I get frustrated when it is time to start mowing the lawn. This lawnmower (GTS = Guaranteed To Start on the 1st or 2nd pull....yeah right:funny
has never performed well since day one. The problem is with starting the lawn mower. There is a primer button that is supposed to be pressed 3 to 5 times before you pull the the cord to start the lawnmower. I have found that it will never start cold with less than 20 - 30 prime cycles. But even after priming it never starts on the first pull, or second, or third, or fourth. When it finally starts after 60 to 100 prime cycles and 5-6 pulls, it runs rough for 5-10 minutes so I have to wait...cursing all the way. By the time it starte, my back and arm are sore and my mood is ....welll...I'm not in a great mood.
Over the past 5 years I have tried changing spark plugs, cleaning/changing the air filter, changing the oil and cleaning under the housing where grass tends to stick and clump and sharpening/replacing the blade. Nothing works as far as making the thing easier to start. I paid top dollar for this POS and never returned it or had it tuned or looked at. At this point I do not even want to bring it anywhere to have it serviced, but could it be something easy that I am missing here that would magically fix the mower? I lost the manual, but I don't think there are any adjustments for the choke or carburetor, etc.
I have had junky lawmowers costing a fraction of this one that ran for years, started easily, etc, with NO maintenance whatsoever. I am on the verge of throwing in the towel and getting a new lawnmower, unless anyone has any clever ideas to fix this thing....
I am also thinking of writing to TORO to complain and bellyache, but I am not sure what good it would do.
