I just got this pump... it is VERY loud...

Also, when it starts it makes a sort of ticking noise and then shuts off.. starts again and repeats about 3-4 times before staying on... THe clicking goes away but there is a healthy HUM from the motor...

TO give you an idea... I have a $30.00 sump pump rated for 1850 gallons per hour that makes about 1/10th the noise.

I would think being called "quiet one" and costing as much as it did that it would not be so noisy!

Im running 1.5" pvc pip with an 8' head

Any experience with this pump? Did I get a busted one?

what I have heard is that they aren't as quiet as they should be, I used to have Quiet One 4000 and 5000 ( this one is still somewhere) but because they were so loud I went with Eheim pumps and thos are really quiet....

.. you may try to put something underneath it so it doesn't touches the bottom glass in sump, or if its outside the sump try to put somehing underneath it ...

I agree. ;)

I've had 3 of them (4000s if i remember right) each one was not "quiet". They weren't overly loud, but they are like a freight train compared to the Eheims I run now.

I also had a problem with them seizing up (perfectly clean, no alignment problems), to where I had to turn or kick start the impeller through the inlet with a piece of wire.

It may be defective, I've seen a lot of QuietOne factory seconds for sale lately that make a sound similar to what you describe. I have a QuietOne 4000 that is silent.

Have you disassembled it to inspect the impeller assembly yet?

Thanks. I'm too lazy to use the search function tonight;)

Personally I just wouldn't use a submerged pump fro that much volume. Too much heat transfer. I would use two eheim 1262s if I had to go submerged and needed that volume.

Another loud energy hog:D

I like the sequence line with baldor motors, the velocity and pan world pumps. The sequence dart may be a good match for your application at 160 watts (lower if you throttle it back a hair) and they are pretty darn quiet;)

I ordered a Velocity t4... I read nothing but good reviews on it.

What I cant for the life of me understand is how you can read a review on 1 pump that says "This pump is Whisper quiet, I cant even tell its running" and then read another review that says it sounds like a freight train!

Had that experience with SEVERAL pumps... Something strange is going on.

Unreal!
