I was looking through my tank today and I noticed that my pom pom crab (boxer crab) has a red clump on its abdomin (ventral side). I was thinking that it was probly eggs. Does anybody know if it is eggs, and do you know if they have seperate sexes or if they are hermaphoredites (like cleaner shrimp)? Does anybody have a pom pom crab and have you seen this before?

pom pom crab

it is more than likely that it is a batch of eggs. i have a pom pom (can never find him in my 180g tank)but i think its a male. some crabs cary them in a flap under there belly, like the porcelin crab and others on there exterior. i wouldnt worry about it too much. :)

What is weird is that I only have one crab, unless these are like cleaner shrimp (hermapherdites) that produce eggs and sperm I have no idea how it got eggs. I dought that the eggs are fertilized cause I only ordered one and I have had it for about a month. So my guess is that pom pom crabs are hermapherdites and produces eggs and sperm like cleaner shrimp or that there are different sexes and the female have eggs every once and a while.

I just found out in another forum that pom poms have seperate sexes and the female produces eggs in hopes of finding a male who will fertilize them. So my question now is does anybody have a pom pom crab that they know is a male and would be willing to trade/sell him.
