icecap de 250/400w or lumen bright 3 de 250/400w. $5 difference. the icecaps are less wide, giving more more for actinics in the canopy they are 15 x 15 whereas the icecap is 15 x 9.

Personally, Lumen Brights... you can run them a lot higher off of the water (actually for the 250's, its recommended that the bulb be off of the water 16") which translates into less heat with the same effective PAR output of the IC pendants. It all comes down to room IMO, I wish I had the space and ability to go up with my lighting, but I don't. It's a PITA getting burned everytime you need to work on the tank with my IC pendant...

im gonna have to rebuild a canopy anyways so the height isnt really the issue. my tank is 18" wide so with the lumen brights that would only leave me 3" for actinics. the ficture i picked out is the sunlight supply ready fit retro kit with the individual tek reflectors. its 4" wide. which is why i was leaning more towards IC because altogether everything would fit better. basically i was looking for input that might sway me otherwise, how do you like your IC pendants and how far off the water do you have them?
