Black sand?

Well, we are going to set up a 5gal nano (got one of those bow-front ones at Petco from Adam, at the special price).

We'll set it up with 2 pc lights (19w each, I think).

I was wondering if anyone here has used black sand (tahitian moon), and what you think of it.

I've seen pictures that look very impressive, but I wonder how it does in the long run (ph-wise and such).

i love this sand too, its very handsome when in a full tank, the only things that i have ever heard of it though are that it doesn't buffer ph (i saw that on the carib sea website) and that it obviously won't reflect light like the white sand, which would make it realy a very striking substrate for a set up with something like LR and some deep colored fishes

If you had enough light in a tank (like insanely overkill 11-15wpg) it would look incredible with the high amount of contrast. I'm wondering though.. The reason it doesn't buffer pH.. probably because of the calcium build of the rock? It must be volcanic or quartz in make-up.
