So how are we doing on the bacterial end of the system, the zeolites, etc?

What more do we need to examine?

Or is it time to move on to the suppliment end and the zooxanthellae `regulation' that this system is trying to do? IMO, these theories on what is going on with the zoox/coloration are very interesting and seem like they can teach us something as well [like this bacterial discussion]

I want to know how you regulate zoox levels. Since reduced nutrient levels isn't soley responsible (remember, there are other additives to get the pretty colors); then what is happening inside the corals? What ways are there to inhibit zoox populations? Or are the chemicals increasing the amount of pigment and not having any effect on the zoox?

Is it lowering zoox levels?
Is this achieved solely thru low nutrient levels, or is something else added affecting things?

Having lowered Zoox levels - would this then give the corals less available sugars to use for calcification? Or does the coral make this up in bacteria consumption?

Would one be able to run reduced light then in this system with good results?

I'd think if you're moving things away from zoox [and more towards feeding] that less light might be needed - and if I can get 400w color out of 175w bulbs with this system maybe there is a cost savings.

Yup, thinking is hard work ... so most think tank threads go and have snacks in the discussion.

Some of the best threads have good recipes too ... Barry's peanut sauce, Spanky's Cornbread, those Chambord Brownies. Worth going thru the old threads for!

It's no fair to tell you where they're all at, but I seem to recall a few are easy to find and the rest in some pretty good threads.
Once you've read them I guess you'll have come into acceptance of the food discussion as impossible to get rid of

OK , From what I got so far is ,

this Zeovit just teaches us good husbandry and a bacteria factory that has to be fed special food that the tank doesn't already supply .

Also why would we want a bacteria that we have to feed , That remindes of a remote DSB .:freak:

Besides specifics was there something I missed in the reading?

There is Acrobat Reader (free) and Acrobat ( full version $400), which I have. When buiding PDF files the user can key the PDF so you can't copy/paste, even in Acrobat but such is not the case with this file. It is often another issue often with Reader in not bing able to copy/paste. Look in the upper left and see if there is a "Select Tool" or "Select Text Tool", you must click on that first to copy/paste.

I guess this is why I don't post much in the think tank, I realize pretty quickly I'm overmatched. I have to do a lot of research to try and understand some of the posts that have been put up, and by the time I come back to them, the discussion has moved well ahead of me.

We'll get you up swimming some time, and I normally wish I had neoprene on so I could float a lot better - folks are nice here and anyone trying to learn is often confused by technicality until a month later in the shower what you've been reading ties together. I find re-reading some good threads from a few months back has a lot of things making sense, even if someone's response confused me at the time

As far as the "macroelement" solution - wouldn't "macro" imply "Major"? This is misleading labelling, since (if it contains what they say) it actually contains trace elements not included in salt mixes, which qualifies in any book as "Micro" elements.

Does Iron enhance skimming? I wouldn't know how to enhance skimming unless you added soap to the tank.
