I have a 60 gallon saltwater tank, and just noticed there are about 5 or 6 little white plants growing on it, they are about a quarter of an inch big, and have a little flair on the top of them...(don't know how else to explain it!)
What could it be... is it bad?
Hydroids. They can become a problem if there becomes too many of them. They can and will sting corals that touch them. You can put superglue all over them to kill them or try joes juice.
Hey, if you have any live rock, I don't care how little, you WILL find many more things starting to grow. Sometimes it takes months for certain things to appear on live rock but it was there all along.
Ok so should I just like get a rubber glove and pick those hydroids off my rock? and also i did a quick google and it does look like they are baby baby versions of this.
Hydroids tend to be one of those things that come and go for the most part. Wait it out and they will probably be gone on their own in about a month. Mine didn't last long. A reef tank is a developing and maturing thing and you will see many crazy things come and go in it's life. It's quite an amazing ride I have to say.
