Hey guys.. I had a question. Why is my pH only 8.0? I would like it to be higher around 8.3 or so..

I have a 100gal DT with a 55gal sump. Water parameters are:

Calcium: 450ppm
Magnesium: 1350ppm
Alk: 9 dKh

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
Phosphate: 0

I have Chaeto in my sump using CO2 and I run the lights 20 hours a day with the lights off at midday (sump is in a room with no windows, pitch black).

I dose Brightwell Aquatics buffer when I need to.

I just don't get it. Is this all just because it's cold out and there's not as much fresh air in here as there would be in the warm spring and summer and CO2 levels are higher in here?

I know this isn't the biggest deal in the world, I would just like to fix it if I can and I'm not just gunna start dumping lime water in if I can fix it simply by getting fresh air in here or something like that.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Take a cup of water, test the ph. Take it outside and stir it up really good then stir again in 5 mins. Test the ph 5 or 10 mins after that. If your ph goes up you need more fresh air in the room. Keep in mind newer tanks have a hankering for having lower ph as bacterial activity is pretty high.

Ok, I'll give it a try. My tank would still be considered new after 2 years?

Using CO2? as in supplementing CO2 to increase growth?
Are you using a pH meter to monitor?

No not supplementing CO2. I'm saying the Chaeto is using some of the CO2 dissolved in the water and therefore bringing the pH up, even if its slight. No I dont have a pH monitor. I figured there is room for error on the test kit but not that high, maybe I'm wrong.

Supplementing CO2 like in freshwater with plants would be crazy for a marine environment
