i bought this live rock and this clam was attached to it it's about 4 inches long and about an inch and a half thick. what is it .and is it bad

i believe most of these are oysters not clams. they are great water filters. hopefully there is enough food in the water for it to eat.

I agree with Geoff. I bought about 300 lbs of LR from an aquaculturing place, and i had about 80-90 of these guys all over my rocks. There has to be plenty of food for these filter feeders or they will die.
