Im planning on changing my tank to bare bottom this weekend and i have a couple questions about it.

First off i have a 30 gallon cube tank and about 20lbs of live rock so far. polyps, and a yellow leather coral.

When i take out the SB which is about 4 inches in some areas im worried about removing bacteria that cuts down on my amonia and nitrates. If i remove the SB can i expect a mini cycle?? Im planning on keeping 75% of the water in the tank. Also im curious about a starboard bottom. What is starboard and where can you get it? any help will be great! thanks!

I wouldn't worry about a cycle. My advice would be to make sure all your animals are placed into a different container while the sand is being removed (the sand can release some nasty organics). Save about 75% of your old water (before sand bed is removed) and add 25% new water.
