Vegi-clips and Turbo Snails

I've been trying to use a vegi-clip to get some nori to my Foxface Rabbitfish - he doesn't seem to be getting enough food from the mixer mush or the algae. [Little ingrate - I got him to deal with the green bubble algae and he seems to have entered into a pact with the green bubble algae and is completely ignoring it :(]

The problem is that I have four or five large Turbo snails in my tank and as soon as I attach the nori one or more of them race over (and boy can they move) and munch down all of it. They actually "sit" on the nori and suck it down.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this? [I'm hoping for something like a squirrel guard that I have on my bird feeders :funny:]

Thanks in advance.

hehe i have the same problem , i just rip it away from them, the turbos always get a snak i guess, ahh well part of the programi guess, well we could always send our turbos to buzz, i know hes got enough alge in his tanks
do you have a center support across the top of your tank? you could try hanging the nori in the center, the foxface would still be able to get it, but it might be more difficult for the snails to get to it.

Fantastic idea!!!! Thanks a ton. I'll try that and report back on how it works. I suspect the darn Turbos will make it out there.

The coolest thing the Turbos do (and I swear I'm not making this up - I'll have to take a picture) is climb all the way out to the end of the LocLine I use for my returns and then hang out with their antennae wagging in the flow rather like a dog with its head out of a moving car. :funny:  So maybe the center support won't work - but it's definitely worth a try.

that's what i was thinking too. i cath my sole surving snail going all the way to the top of the glass, and hanging out ABOVE the water line!! i also cathc my hermits crawling up the silicone seals quite often as well.

now for hanging in the center, what i'm thinking is that you'll have the support, and then the clip, and the nori hanging in the water. this would'nt prevent the snails, if they are good, but it's going to make it more difficult for them to get htere, which should give the foxface more time to eat before they get there.

let us know how it works out

i tied mine with fishing line
i have my food clip tied to a fishing line as well, so now my snails climb up the glass and down the fishing line, and swing on the food clip as it eats, sort of like a tarzan snail. it took me awhile to figure out what the clicking noise was, cuz every time i turned around to see what was making the noise, the water current in my tank would flip the food clip around and i couldn't see the snail, had me puzzled for a short while!
:funny: :funny:
Try two clips w/nori......one on each side of the tank. I do that sometimes, put one in a few minutes before the other. Kind of a snail distractor......:)

My foxface just knocks the snails off "his" food now. He likes the headbutt.
Oh, my Turbos would love that :funny: That way they'll have twice as much food to pig out on. I can even see them deciding which one go to the one on the left-side and which to the right :)

And unfortunately, the Turbos are so much bigger than the Foxface right now he'd probably give himself a concusion if he headbutted any of them right now :funny:
