Vacation question...

Ok, so I know what I am about to ask may be cause for yelling at me. I am interested in theoretical thoughts... I have to go on vacation for a week and a half to get married. I am trying to decide what to do with my tanks. My 29 is pretty happy, and the autofeeder should keep it cruising along for that amount of time. However, if I have a fuzzy dwarf in another tank, is there anyway to get him through? I could load the tank up with live food, but I am afraid he will just overeat. What do you think? Is this a possibility? And if so, what kind of live food would be best? As always, thanks and have a wonderful day.

well any possibility of a freind stoping by every 3rd day to feed the lion?
Therein lies the problem. Just about everyone I know close is going out to the wedding also.
Very doubtful... That is why I ended up asking the question...

you found your self in a pickle man.....would your lfs hold it for a week and a half while your away?
While I appreciate the thoughts, I am assuming my original premise is not possible?
hopefully Buzz will see this. he will know how long a lion can go without food. most macro predators can go a while without food, so you may be ok, but just barely. they have slow metabolisms.

Actually, I may have someone setup to come by after about 4-5 days so that may not be quite as bad. Out of curiousity, how long can typical fish go without food? I know we usually feed every other day. I have a Pajama Cardinal, fp clown, and 2 green chromis in my other tank. I would rather not use the auto-feeder for flakes if I don't have to. But 4 days seems like a long time. Maybe some veggies in between?
I know I may be crazy but why not buy a half doz green cromis or small damsils and toss them in there for him to snack on while your away?

i don't think it's crazy to put a damsel or 2 inside the tank while you're gone. however, a lion would easily go 10 days without feeding.

the length of time a fish can go between feeding is directly determined by how healthy (and how much they ate) before you leave them.

as for your other fish, either 4 day intervals or the auto feeder would be fine. just get them well-nourished and strong the week before you leave. when i left for my 10 day vacation, i fed my tanks handsomely, then asked my neighbor come by and feed them every so often.

one unrelated suggestion: how are you handling your top off water? when i returned i was greeted by a horrible sucking noise. my topoff system failed and i lost about 10g of water. luckily all i lost was one acro frag.

This place is the best. Thank you for the suggestions, and the very kind offer. I am still exploring options, and I think I have someone who will be back the second week. It is nice to know their are always such friendly people out there. Have a great one!!!
