In a couple of weeks my reef will will have reached 40 years old.
Unfortunately I don't remember when I was 40 but I remember when I set it up. I was a skinny 22 year old just back from Viet Nam.
It is still running very well, still using the same reverse UG filter, same dolomite substrait but none of the fish are original. The oldest one, a fireclown is just over 16, all of the older fish died in an accident that was due to my carelessness.
The tank is mostly LPS, gorgonians, giant mushrooms and a few leathers.
There are only three SPS corals, two of which have been with me for a few years and are growing nicely.
I am not sure is any of the original NSW from the Long Island Sound is still in there or any of the original amphipods but maybe much later generations.
I still can't take a decent picture and the tank is not as blue as these pictures but it is what it is.

Congrats Paul, by my calculations you are abot 2 yrs older than me. Thank you for your service and I am glad you made it back from the Senior Trip. Pics look great, shows once again there is more than one way to get there :)
Paul, I am glad that she got to get out and have such a great time, keeping a positive outlook is so important. I have been through cancer twice with my wife of 43 years, I suspect that you, like my self, went WHY HER when something major reveals itself. It never seems fair that we put ourselves into situations and cheat fate over and over, then have fate take a really lousy turn, but we deal with it and make the best we can. you Sir are blessed with a beautiful family and I wish you the best :)
I watched the Ride vid, very cool idea, I think more cities ought to get on that train, Having spent most of my life in the country I thought it was a much better view of City
streets. They can be pretty grim to a guy off the farm.
Paul best f luck with getting relief from your back issues. Hopefully the tank will be ok to keep going, it would be a shame after all these years to take it down

Paul I feel your pain on the Bluetooth talkers. I think they should have a power antennae like mast with a swirling blue light overhead when in use:)
I have a suggestion for Man Store, You walk in after unlocking the door with your Man Card (now with chip) you are met at the door by supermodel in golf cart, offered complimentary beverage and driven to the item you need. She grabs it and drives you out to your car since transaction is automatic.
In the event the product is wrong, you have option of same super model picking it up with correct item s well as complimentary beer and sammich :)
Gotta keep the long tradition alive ;)
Are Narwhal's reef safe?
So so, they tend to upset the ice coral with the endless fencing ;)
Paul, manatees would be better esp for cleaning mangrove sumps, Narwhales are kewl but the need long tanks for turning and chiller is a must.
I like the lamps :) How is the new house coming along?

Well piffle on the set back, hopefully the weather will be good by then and you don't have to borrow all the penguins from the zoo on moving day
I know what you mean, when I would go out to Tennessee to visit family it took the 4-5 days I was there to get back into the swing of unnerstandin Hill Billy ;)
I have lived here long enough I speak clear 'Merican, though when I am socially drinking with foreigners I am amazingly multilingual ;)
Great Shot Paul. hopefully in a few months that will be everyday occurrence :)
So Paul do you have the old "Penn Plax" or "Tetra Tech" style UG plates? back in mid 70 I was looking for that style that would work well with a 125g Tru Vue (rounded front corners). LFS didn't have any that size so I talked to owner about ordering some. At that point sales rep pops in and we all got to talking. Rep is pushing these new "Marine Biotech"( I think) UG plates, molded with rippled surface and 1" riser tubes. These were twice the price of the standard plates so rep sets me up with a set for that style tank, with Limewood air block diffusers plus 2 Silent Giant air pumps free to review. They also had an optional "skimmer top for the riser tubes you could add, kinda crude skimmer, seemed to work sort of.
Nice stuff, store carried them and I set up several tanks in Dr Offices and what not.
Years later when plenums became the hot set up I thought wow cap these off and instant plenum ;)

Sorry for the double post, not sure that how that happened.\I didn't mean the specific brand, just assumed it was the old slotted plate section type as opposed to the network of connected tubes with perforations.

My GAWD Paul, everytime I say nothing surprises me I am amazed by monumental stoopid yet again. My reaction to that would be fall back 50, pop smoke and call in airstrike :( Uneffinbelievable :(
Ya I suppose. Gotta love how the more bumbling or repressive an agency is the tighter they lock em down :(
John ain't as old as us but he ain't a teen no more but you wouldn't know by his wardrobe ;)
I was born in 51, somdays I just want to go home and hid when I see what the world is becoming :(
