I get a film on the surface of my water. I dont have an overflow or a sump. Is there a kit or some DIY plans for a surface skimmer that fits over the hob filter intake, or over the intake of a hob protien skimmer?

You can point a little powerhead towards the surface and break the surface tension just a little and you should be fine.

I actually have a maxijet 400 doing just that. It does a good job where it hits the surface, but 6 or 8 inches away, the film is there. I just figured it would help the water quality to skim it off the surface.

ive seen kits that attach to skimmers for pulling that scum off the surface, i have no idea if they are for a certain brand, or if they work at all, but it could be something to look into.
