I have a 65 Gallon tank that was used as a saltwater fish only tank. I want to convert the tank to a reef setup but also with a sump filtration set up. The tank is tempered glass and I don't think it can be drilled. What are my options and why do I need an overflow???

You use the overflow to get the water from the display tank to the sump.

I would verify for sure, the tank is tempered. Drilling the tank would be best, if at all possible.

It's definately tempered glass, so my only option would be an overflow that hangs on the back of the tank?? Why can't I use a pump to actively suck the water from the display tank into the sump tank and then a pump to push the water back into the tank? wouldn't this also help circulate the water more effectively?

If your return pump quits returning the water to the display, what is going to stop the pump from sucking the water from the tank?
