sump question

you can try isolating the pump from the sides of the sump by using old neoprene mouse pads as vibration dampeners. i finally gave up on pumps and bit the bullet and replaced all of my pumps with Blueline Velocities. never heard a pump sound again. expensive and can add heat to the tank, but nothing is quieter.

if you can add a slight angle to the drain line from the overflow that should stop the bubbles from building up in the tube and causing the burping you are seeing. you can also drill a small hole just above the water line in the drain line going into the sump. this will give the burping air another way to escape besides out of the bottom of the tube.

it is at an angle but guessing not enough of one. ill have to concider the other option. thank you. and yeah ill have to deal with the sound since i spent so much recently i cant really aford to buy a new pump when this one actually works lol

do you have the PVC return line threaded directly on the pump or is it connected with a short piece of tubing?

uh the return has a longer tube from the pump to the tank. because of how it is sitting had to be longer.

OK, I get that , but is it flexible tubing or is it hard PVC pipe attached directly to the pumps outlet.
The reason I ask is that usually transmitts vibration from the pump to the hard pipe and then it creates noise anywhere it touches anything, the stand, side or top of the tank, etc. Using a short piece of flex tubing can help isolate the transferred vibration, and using a neoprene mouse pad under the pump base helps alot as well, at least with the pump noise.
As far as the other, is the drain line burping air while the water is entering the sump under water and causing sporadic bubbles?

the tubeing to the pump is flexable. it just vibrates on the bottom the other is doing what u just said.

The drain line sounds like it's surging. The drain line needs to flow completely in a downward direction. If it rises up at any point, it will surge. If you have the corrugated drain line, try coiling it in a downward spiral if it's too long.

Well its a tube that goes straight down for the most part it is at a bit of an angle cause it floats some how can i get it not to float

A pic would really help. Your drain line is just floating in the sump?

You can make or buy something like this to hook your drainline onto. It reduces noise and bubbles.

i adjusted it so it was straight down and it is pinned so it cant move and its still doing it. Its not as bad and not as often well see how it goes

Went back to look at your build thread. I see you have the megaflow kit plumbing. On the top of the drain pipe in the overflow there is a raised hole on the top. Make sure it's not blocked.

Also, hard to tell from your pics but is there a valve on your drain line?

I think ill buy a piece of plexi and cover that end it wont get out and it is only half the sump just enough to keep the water from splashing out

i should have said i plan to talk to the the guy in town that cuts the stuff and get a piece for the side of the sump mainly it will jsut sit between the tube and wall of the tank it will just be higher so the water doesnt go over. i wont be covering the sump

had to move the hose back out since it was still bubbling gonna pick up the glass tomorrow *i hope* and i can move it back since where it is is messing up the flow of the skimmer.
