ooohhhhhh davey where ya at? :D

so today, despite being up since 2 am, a miserable summer cold, can't breath, excessive coughing, and a fever of 101, i still managed to get some work done!

today i got the last 3 doors cut and installed.
got the main trim pieces painted and installed (above and below the tank)
got the 4 small doors painted around the edges.
i was gonna go with trim around the doors, but decided plain paint would be easier.

all i need to do now is get some paint on the three new doors, and geth them trimmed in black. also still need to put some smaller trim pieces on the right side of the stand.

i think i'm going to cut a hole in the left side of the stand and install a door, for easier access to the backside of the fuge. plus it will make that side look better instead of a big white wall.

i'm painting the backs of the fuge and display in black, but not until they come back from the shop with holes in them.

this first shot is with the doors closed

and anther with doors open.

i'm thinking of painting that space between tank and the side door black, instead of trimming it, since it's so small. plus it will blend in with black backed tank.

right now the doors are held open with some shim pieces. i think i'm gonna pick up some dowel rods, and ru na screw through them and make a holder bar for each door, similar to the way stella's dad did her canopy. and then miter the end, and install a stop block on the inside of the doors to hold it in place.

thanks jeremy. it'll look better once the rest of the doors are painted. i gave up for the night. my head is killing me, and i really need some rest. i got up at 2, went to work, came home at 8, hit the bank, then HD, and then the garage, been there ever since (except for mandatory stops into TRT :)

hoping to finish the last of it tommorrow, so i can get started on the plumbing and bring this puppy in the house!!

i've been trying to figure out the same thing myself!

i dont have any bowfronts, but i've always wondered how one could be pulled off.

i actually have an idea that would work great, and look original, but you wouldn't be able to have a door on the front.

the top would be on hinges, and there could be small doors on the sides, for feeding and minor maintanence, but no doors on the front.

basically for the bow front you need to get your wood panelling, get it wet, and bow it. It takes a little longer to get the wood to bow, but you brace it in the center and put weight on the ends to get it to bow. If it isn't enough, get the wood wet again, and add a little more weight. *this is how I was told it is done, I have never done it myself.*

Alot of people steam wood to get their bends.....then for the "doors" you could bend them to match, just put the hinges on the sides instead of on the tops...the curved doors would open out instead of up.

Really im not hiding.

Did the fishing trip yesterday....should have stayed home and worked on mine since I didn't catch a single fish...(got one bite in 4 hours.) So today I am kicking myself. I've got everything skinned up and the wholes cut. I have my spackle, and sandpaper ready. Ill probably start on all that tomorrow...in the mean time im trying to figure out my door situation......and just how to trim them.

dave, fwiw, i didnt even trim the new doors. i'm jsut painting the edges of them. they wont look like big pieces of plywood though. least i hope not :)

oh, and i picked up a sheet of 4'x4' 1/2" birch plywood at lowes for the doors for only 10 bucks yesterday. it's nice and straight and flat. i was goign to get 1/2" regular ply again, but it was all too warped, which wouldnt be a problem with a fram behind it, but the doors are jsut hanging. so i went with the higher qaulity birch, and it still wasnt expensive.

if you want a solid door, chekc hd and lowes, they also have laminated pine boards for furniture building. very straight, and light. they have them in 1/2" and 1" thick and from 8" wide to 30" wide. lengths are 36, 48, and 72

cheap too. the 1/2" x 72 x 14 is only $15.20 that would give you both of your doors. unless your doors are wider, ten it'll cost slightly more. but it would be a solid wood door, instead of plywood.

jsut a idea for ya to think about.

I'd probably have to buy two of those....

Im going to have 4 doors on the stand....two pairs of two.
I've also decided to go with 2 doors on the cabinet since it is 36" wide a single door would be heavy on a pair of hinges AND im afraid it would just be to bulky looking.

Ill check out the pine though...I wanna check the local lumber yards so I don't have to drive to HD though (40minute ride).

yeah that would be a heavy door for a few hinges. i keep forgetting that your cabinet unit is wider than mine because of the tank differance.

good plan, not sure how you came up with it on your own though :funny: ;) :funny:

BTW I am probably going to concede on this little comp. Funds have run short, and the stand has taken much longer than I expected......now work is going to send me to TN for 2 weeks to help another distribution center install their new system.....

Don't these people understand that I have a tank to build?
