How much nitrates can soft corals stand I have heard that some may do well in dirtier water. My think is my nitrates are high and if I put some soft corals in they might use up some of the nitrate lowering them even more.
Any other ideas would be helpful.

Keep in mind that term is very subjective. We use the term "dirty" in the hobby sense of the word not the real world sense. We never will keep a coral in dirty water. Corals like mushrooms, some paly, pulsing xenia (but not all species of xenia) they can handle higher nitrates but that still means keeping them < 0.5 ppm or thereabouts in my experience.
