I have a beautiful colt finger coral. It has grown tremendously over the past 8 months into a tree with lots of limbs.

However, over the past two days it has not opened up after the lights come on. It has stayed in the shrunken, sleep state. If anyone can give me some idea of what to do I would appreciate it.

I have other corals in the tank that are doing fine.

Hey, you are from Panama. My family and I had a blast in the St Andrews State Park. Had a great meal at Schooners. Great grouper sandwich

Anyway, sounds like you water chemistry is off. Need to test or have your water tested at a LFS for nitrate, phosphate.

Glad you enjoyed the area. If you visit again drop me a line and I'll suggest some other good places to eat, though Schooners is pretty good.

Thanks for the advice. I will be doing both my own testing and take a sample to the lfs for back up.

Thanks.

Me and my 7yr old daughter snorkeled the cove in St Andrews. We saw a ton of blue damsels, wrasses, tangs. Panama City Beach rocks. The Emerald Coast is a great hidden treasure not many people know about. we'll be back next year.

Leather corals often close up like you're describing for as long as a week with no issue. Oftentimes, they close up for so long because they're shedding. In my tank, this happens every month or two, but sometimes it happens much more often than that. It's nothing to worry about if the coral opens up again within a week or so of being closed. I wouldn't even be that concerned if it lasted longer than a week.
