I have a 55g/w 20g sump/refugium. I am setting up my new 100g/w 40g/sump/refugium. I have the 100 running with some live rock from the 55 and have 50lbs. more coming. I am going to trasfer the rest of the rock and livestock from the 55 to the 100. I am trying to cut down on the cycle time on the 100. My thought was to do a lot water mixing between the 55 and the 100 to get them close to the same water. I am also going to transfer the sand from the 55 to the 100. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Get all new sand. Take a cup or two from the old tank and add it to the new tank. Sand beds hold A LOT of nasty stuff that you are sure to stir up if you try to transfer the sand.

Of course, Im one of those bare-bottom weirdos so I would just throw the sand out without replacing it :D
