I just bought a salinity pinpoint monitor it reads 30.9 which is like 1.014 on the scale...my hydrometer reads 1.022 wonder why such a difference????If its only 1.014 that is extremely low...what should I do?????I thought about adding a little more salt to my wc this time to accomodate the lower salinity????:bawling:

did you calibrate the salinity monitor? if so than that is not overly surprising. this is why those hydrometers are not recommended. refractometers and salinity monitors are the way to go.

as long as you do not raise the temp any faster than .001 a day you will be fine. no reason to hurry, but it should be raised to your final salinity. i prefer 1.026, but anything between 1.023 and 1.026 is fine. try adding a cup of salt a day and see how quickly that raises it. on a tank of that size prolly not much, but that is a good thing.

I have a monitor that reads both salinity and SG and I keep my salinity at about 30 and when I switch it to SG it reads between 1.023 and 1.024.

this is the one I bought from Foster & Smith

Continuously measures dissolved salt levels in your tank. Reads in microsiemens (mS), but includes a chart to cross-reference to both specific gravity (S.G.) or ‰ salt (ppt). Includes a 53.0 mS reference

does this help? I hope just dont want to over add if its suppose to be 30?
