My girlfriend and I have been on the lookout for a pair of clowns hosting a nem and finally came across one at the LFS. I'll admit it was a bit of a hasty decision but I'm hoping it will all pull through.
So far, the anemone has stuck to the back wall and is basically at the water line. I've been told to just let it do it's thing but so far it is doing nothing, and is slowly deflating. I've read they like high lighting/flow so I placed him near my gyre 150 to begin with.
Parameters are good and everything else is great. Any ideas? :help:
How did you get acclimate your anemone? Why did you place it by your Gyre 150? The Gyre is able to put out even flow throughout the tank, you need to either attempt to move teh anemone and/or move the Gyre, you dont want to risk your anemone getting sucked in. How long has your tank been running? How big is your tank? What lights do you have?

It came in a bag, dropped the bag in the tank and let it get to temperature. After 30ish minutes, I took it out and placed at bottom of tank.

I read they enjoyed flow so I put him just out of flow of the gyre so that he could find it easily. He wasn't set in a way that would get him sucked in.

Tank is about 2 years old with plenty of sps/lps and softies doing great.
How big is your tank?
125 gallon DT 25G sump 6ft long
What lights do you have?
AI Vegas set roughly halfway and blue dominant.
It's probably deflating (and I'm guessing doing some other funky stuff by now) from a lack of acclimation. Anemones are made mostly of water so sudden changes are tough on them - stability is the most important thing for them. Unless your parameters and the LFSs were almost the same he'll likely start purging water and replacing it with the new in attempt to find equilibrium.
So then, in a way, the deflating is a good thing because he is getting used to the new water? He was at the very top and against the back wall but I moved him to a spot with high flow and better lighting. He has stayed put for the past day so we will see.
Is there anything else that I can do to help him acclimate easier? I will be doing two smaller water changes to keep everything clean. Should I be feeding or not feeding?
I wouldn't feed him for a while - give him a chance to get settled. When you do your water changes, make sure you match your salinity and temp. It's not recommended to have an anemone until your tank is around year old partially because of the processes going on in the tank, but also it gives you as a reefer time to learn your tank and maintenance routine and get it down to a science so there are no mistakes that may change parameters.
