How long after adding salt to a batch of SW will a refracto give an accurate reading? I poured some RO/DI in to empty a jug and have to readjust the salinity. Its not for my tank its for cooking rock but I don't want to shock the bacteria in the rock. WOuld the caustic nature of freshly mixed in salt still affect bacteria even moving from 1.016 to 1.024?

I think it is hardly going to matter now. The heater went bonkers in there last night and it feels like about 85 degrees. SUch a rapid change probably did more damage than the salinity swing would have to my bacteria. I'm going to let it slowly cool off and then do my water change. Hopefully the bacteria are not starting completely over.
