I've got a 55g build i'm doing right now and I've come across a set of 2, 250w CoralVue dimmable MH lights for $200. this guy lives right up the road from me (45mins) and i'd like to buy from someone i can see the items first. can you guys give me some feedback on this set-up? i'll be looking to have a wide array of corals, but not for 6-8 months from now, but i want to get to work on my hodd and I can't until i have my lighting sorted...

he wants $200 but i think i might be able to negotiate it a bit...i more interested in whether this set-up is overkill for my current 55g build...and if there's some things i should consider before talking about the price with him...

I think that will likley be overkill on a 55 and you will probably need some serious fans for passive cooling or a chiller to get the job done...especially with a canopy

How old are the ballasts and such? You could go with a much more efficient reflector in future to really get the use out of the bulbs. If I were to offer to buy that light, i would offer about $150 max.
