Ok so I just got a new 100g protein skimmer for my 55 gallon tank that will soon become a reef. My question is do I need both filters? Should I keep both? Any advice would be appreciated

The other filter is just a regular hang on filter for 55 gallons

I love hobs because they're great for keeping filter media and stuff. I keep carbon, a sponge, and a bonded pad in mine. I would keep it if you can keep up with maintenance for it.
