I bought a small (1" inch) Powder Blue Tang yesterday for my tank. I set everything up and introduced it to my tank and all was well.

I woke up early this morning to see how he was going and I found Him lying on his side on the bottom of the tank in a little pocket of live rock. I looked closely at the fish and it was breathing.

I put my hand in the tank to help the fish and he sprung up and started swimming around as normal. I feel really bad that I woke the fish up.

My question is do the Powder Blue Tangs sleep this way, cause if they do, a crab is sure to get him when he least expects it and I will loose him.

I had a clown who would sleep on the top of the water on his side, all was fine until I upgraded to VHO, and then it would blind him in the mornings! He then resorted to sleeping straight up and down in the corner of the tank. Go figure!

Yep - my 1 1/2" blue (hippo) tang does the same thing - lays sideways against a rock. Actually he used to sleep against the slats of the intake and I thought he was getting stuck there with the suction so I did just like you and stuck in my hand and woke him (now he sleeps on the rock!).

Yep, my hippo tang used to do the same thing- lie on his side wedged between rock and sand

Great stuff I'm not alone.

I will hatch a plan to catch my crabs cause I do not want to loose my tang.
