Was coming home today and found this really neat butterfly on one of my blooming plants.............enjoy

Thanks Cath..........i had just gotten home from work and had my hands full when this butterfly landed on my Oregano that was blooming boy they love it and boyyyyyyy u ought to have seen me fly in the house and grab my camera .........i just knew he would be gone by the time i ran out but lowwww and behold he sat there hovering and i got three pics but this one was the best one..........I made it my background for my puter............

yes, that is what kind of butterfly it is. they are not territorial at all. they will fly from field to field finding food and host plants, and of course a mate.

I didn't know that the black ones were female. I actually have seen black and yellow ones alot lately fluttering around together.
Maybe they are "flirting". Very neat to watch.

it is actually a little more complicated than that. all the black ones are females, but females can also come in the standard yellow also. so it is a little misleading when you see so many yellows and a few blacks that there are not enough females to go around.:D sorry , i am not a genetesis(sp?) so i can not tell you why the colour morphs.
