I have been dosing pickling lime in my top off water. Has gotten calcium levels where i want them, but ph is up to 8.6 and nitrates are up to 20. I am addressing the nitrates, but how do I manage the ph downward?

90 gallon fowlr display with 40 gallon sump/refugium.

why are you dosing pickling lime?
when are you testing your ph?
at the start of the light cycle or at the end?
to be honest i would be more worried about the nitrates then the ph at this point

Kalk is for maintaining calcium levels, not increasing them. Dose something like kent turbo calcium to get ca levels where you need them and use kalk to maintain them in between water changes. Then you pH should drop a bit... Mine runs pushing 8.5 at times using kalk in a kalk reactor tied to the top off though.
