Buzz, I love your volitan pics. I also have a volitan and can't waite till he get big. He is only about 3 inches long at the moment. I feed blood worms, beefheart, and freeze dried krill. What do you feed yours?

Hooked,

You need to change his diet... Bloodworms, and beef heart aren't things he would find in the wild and do not provide the propper nutrients... I feed mine frozen silversides, raw cocktail shrimp, talapia (you can get a pound at the fish dept of your grocery store for about $5) and squid strips... (Junkzoo helped me fine tune the menu for him...) They are amazing fish and will live a very long time given proper nutrition...

Shirley,

Yes, his eyes cleared up. :) He's now in the 125 and it's apparent he was getting very stressed in the 55... He was kept in a 90 before I got him so he was prob very cramped... I can really observe his natural behaviors now.. It's pretty cool to watch him stalk my hermit crabs... ;) I also promised you something that I haven't hookes ya up with yet. I'll try and get that set up for ya tonight...

ReefDave....... Shhhhhhh... :)

Beautiful Buzz!

My little 2"er is already eating dead food, I feed him krill, clam, mysis and silversides. It so cute, one little bite of anything and his tiny belly looks like it's gonna pop!

The last large volitans I had ate everything, even the cube formula foods - even Spirulina Formula!!

Mine is just starting to eat frozen cubes... It's pretty funny though, cause he's not used to it... So he'll snap it up quickly and spit it out... and look at it funny.... Then he'll snap it up and eat it... :)

Yeah.... shrimp and talapia you can get at the grocery store...

Silversides and squid strips you can get at the LFS... If you can't find it at an LFS, let me know and I'll find an online order place for ya...

I usually get a pound of Talapia, and a pound of shrimp and keep it frozen... the shrimp, you can unfreeze one by one as you need them... the talapia, cut it into strips and keep in baggies... that way you can just grab a strip or two to feed and they thaw very quickly under warm water...

HARPO - Unless I'm not seeing the volitans, what you have there is a Radiata lionfish, not a volitans. Grows to about half the size and is pickier about both food and water conditions. Looks good though.

SQUID! You can buy that in the supermarket too. In the freezer section of the meat department, you can get pounds of it for just pennies - don't pay tons for it at the LFS.

Buzz, one more question.

Just to clarify. I need to buy the raw shrimp and talapia, or can I get the frozen cocktail shrimp platers and the frozen talapia in bags?

I would think getting the raw stuff would be better then I can divide it up a little easier.

Sorry for the questions just want to make sure I get the right thing.
