Hello. New to forum. I have 200 gall tank. Going to be reef tank. Has 75 gallon sump with refug. Had tank up for about 8 years. Had to move and take it down for 3 years. Now it is back up and running. It has 180 lb of Fiji dry rock which I cycled for 1 month. Set up tank with Fritz turbostart 900. Been up 2 months now. Have two small yellow tangs and three small clowns. 8 softy corals. Just finishing the first stage of ugly tank ( Dino’s). I have not started refug yet with Cheato.
I am experiencing something I have not had before. 0 nitrates. Before I always had 5 nitrates. But this time I have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrate, 8.2 ph. Should I be concerned about the 0 nitrate?

Checked with two different test kits. Had 80 ppm during the cycle. Now showing zero. In the eight years I had it up before I never had 0 ppm. Always ran about 5 ppm. Been over feeding for about 3 days in hops of showing some nitrates.

Could this new skimmer be stepping all the organically out of the water to leave no nitrates at all? Going to slowly increase the bio load so that may correct this.

Dinos almost gone. Been over feeding 4 days. Still showing 0 nitrate. Everything looks good so I am just going to ride it out and see what happens. Small amount of green algae showing. Going to also slowly increase bio load by adding a couple of fish at a time. I basically have the exact same setup as I ran before changes are new skimmer, new heaters, new lights, new power heads. Still Using ro/ di water. Reef crystal salt. First time I have ever had 0 nitrate. I did use Fritz turbo start 900 to start the tank.

Been over feeding about a week. Cut back on skimmer time. Dinos gone. Have thin layer of green algae on rocks right now. Increased bio load by adding 5 more fish. Still no nitrates. Will just ride it out. Everything looks good. Fish doing great. Corals all open and looking good. I agree when the algae dies off it may start showing nitrates. Thanks.
