It's best to keep neons in odd numbers with one male for every 2 females.

I dont know the water specs ar the size of the mollies, but in a 10 gallon tank if you want neons, keep nothing but neons. I kept a 10 gallon tank with about 12 neons for about 2 years with great sucsess. The trouble with your friend keeping them in this tank is that 3 mollies and a betta already put a strain on bioload and the fact that mollies and neons not to mention the betta( more like neons in water chem) need different whater parameters. If your friend really wants neons in a 10 gallon might i sugest a tank of their own!

i have 6 neons, two platies, two guppys, a goldfish, and a algae eater. the tank has been up for over a year and everything is fine. i have never had a problem with any of them.
