I am having a frag tank built for me by a local reefer.

Its an acrylic tank that is 24x24x10 ~25g

The tank will be lit by an AI Hydra

here are my renderings on the tank. Please give me any advice you have on changes that could be made to make the tank better.

Currently I am thinking ill have 3/4 retuns and drains in the tank. Not sure if that is to much or not so please give me some feed back on that. Based on readings a 1/2 drain will only run about 200gph though it and I need more turn over in the tank then that.

Also In the overflow I have him cutting out a notch for my lock line to come though. Should I do that or just leave it be and bring the lock line over top of the overflow?

Nice renderings! I wish you luck on the tank, bonding acrylic isn't particularly easy. You need very straight and true cuts. Hope it works out great!

Yeah it's a nice program. It took a lot of playing around with to figure it out. I can only do basic stuff like you see.

I am not bonding my own acrylic I'm having a guy do it that has built tanks for other people in the area.

My plan is for the stand to take the top off a biocube stand and replace it with a 24x24 slab of oak. Do you think this will work ok?

As long as the stand is supporting it at all corners yes. But if the tank footprint is larger than the stand itself then I'd say no.

It gets easy. I don't go to crazy with it. I sketched up the tank in the program in about 6mins. Much faster then I could draw it out in scale.

I am making my tank a bit different. Bottom, back, and overflow will be made out of black acrylic.

I am trying to figure out a nice looking frag rack solution. They sell some on ebay buy I may have the guy who's building the tank make me three out of black acrylic. Two 12x10 and one 7x7. Thinking maybe have them different heights 1",2",3".

Also trying to figure out some useful fish to keep in the tank to mange algae and other things. Not sure on an algae eater but going to figure something out and have my six line wrasse in the tank as well

Definitely make sure you can get under the frag racks, but it sounds like you've got that under control. The frag racks in the frag tanks at my LFS are not removable and there are piles of detritus under there that would probably make Geoff break down and cry, because they cause me physical pain. A lawnmower blenny might be a good algae eater.

I am thinking Ill design them with two finger holes so I can lift them up easily to remove build up under it.

Alright the design of my tank and stand are done. I sketched up a new stand that I am going to build because the biocube stand just isnt going to work with the size of my frag tank.

For some reason the internet is down at my house so I cant post picutres of my sketchup designs but they are looking good.

I think I should be able to build and skin/trim the stand this weekend.

So my whole I idea for my frag tank is that I would sell my biocube and use that money to pay for the frag tank. I bought the biocube and never really got into it and started just using it as a QT tank. So I posted it and turns out the guy building me the tank was interested in it and we are just trading tank for tank. Couldnt of worked out better.
