Well,
After finishing the base of my stand (man that thing is big compared to my tank) the UPS man showed up and it was like christmas but better.

Everything was packaged perfect, and nothing was left out. BTW I never knew a mag 12 weighed so darn much...WOW.

I might get a change to work on the cabinet a little tomorrow, if not then it will have to wait till later in the week.

now for the.....

MAJOR SCORE. I had to go to a going away party for one of my employee's tonight, and while walking through the host's house I spotted an empty 55g tank, because thats what we reefers do (And in this room we have an empty 55g tank and an olympic swimming pool filled with quarters.......WOW how much you want for that 55g tank?). So of couse I asked what his plans were, he had none, I asked his price he said 20, I said Ill make room in the explorer.

End result, is that I can now scrap the rubbermaid tubs in favor of the single 55g sump. Also this will bring my total water volume up closer to 90 gallons. Lastly I was planning on just using two rubbermaids, and adding a refugium later, but I think I will go ahead and devide this little gem into 3 chambers and add the refugium from the start.

Im thinking 1st chamber, skimmer, 2nd chamber return, 3rd chamber, slow moving higher divider refugium, with the return water feeding a very slow 10 gallons per hour or so into this chamber, and overflowing back into the return chamber......ideas? comments?

Once again I have to thank everyone on this board. I read other boards for 4 years and gained an amazing amount of technical knowledge, but it doesn't come close to the support, encouragement, atmosphere, and planning feedback that I have gotten here in a few short months of reading, and weeks of posting.

THANKS ALL
Dave

Nope, better yet its never had water.

It was a terrarium for a savana monitor. The monitor was in it for a few months while the owner built a "desert" in 1/2 of his garage. I know these things carry all kind of nasty bacteria, but nothing a good vinegar scrub, blade scrape, RO rinse, and a day in the sun shouldn't cure....

cha ching! you might want to wipe the glass down with a strong solution of hydrogen peroxide to help sterilize the glass against any bacteria that was produced by the lizard. i'd like to se a pic when you finish it!

On my way to Columbia to send off my camera for repair. If they get it done "under warranty" then you guys are gonna wish it had stayed broken!

As soon as its fixed you will be inundated with pics don't you worry. Heck the reeftank was put on hold last year because I wanted to buy a good digital to document it with.....not gonna let it stop me this time, but still once its fixed...look out!.

Fill it with water and bleach, a cup in the tank full of water, soak over night, drain , rinse a few times then let sun dry for a day or so. that should kill the residual bacteria with no lasting toxicity issues.
SO you are going to divide the 55 ino thirds? Skimmer section on one side and return pump in center, with slow flow into the refuge , that will spill back into return chamber?
Oh man that sounds way to logical and thought out, but what about the $100 worth of plumbing stuff? Yah know if you dont spend it Mr Murphy extracts a higher toll ;)
Dude sounds like its really starting to gel now, ENJOY :D

I'd say if possable redo the silicone inside the tank. The lizard pee will prolly have the same effect that my snakes did in my old 55 gallon. Like with copper the pee from the lizard has prolly leached into the silicone and will actualy cause problems with ph and bacteria that is unwanted. I know this for a fact with snakes and making it into a freshwater tank from personal experience. I can only imagine what it could do to a reef tank. I am how ever unsure with the lizard but I would assume that the same problems would be there. Just a suggestion for you to think about.

More good news this afternoon.

The camera shop quoted my "purchase date" as May 28th 2002, and therefore still under warranty. Plus my brother used to work there, so if they open it up, and there is serious damage (not just a broken gear or something) and they deny the warranty, then the camera shop is only going to charge me base repair (what olympus charges them) so instead of 190-280 it will be 70-150 or so. Thats the cost of a new smart card, so I am feeling alot better tonight.....
