Was wondering if anyone has any experience with a Mag 36. I just purchased one and it is so loud. Is this normal??? If so, can anyone reccomend a pump that has similar flow characteristics?? I have a 12' head and it runs thru a chiller and two Rainbow Lifeguard chemical filters. I need a flow rate of 900 to 1250 at the tank. Thanks.......

240 gallon cube tank, CSL 1/2 HP chiller, 25 gallon sump, 20 gallon refugium, AquaC EV-240 skimmer, 700 watts of PC lighting and 500 watts of 20K MH....... 2- Little giant MDQX-4 , 1 Mag 36 and 25 w UV. Tank temp a constant 77 degrees....

many corals and inverts, including a 4" Mantis shrimp and lots of reef fish........

Iwaski (sp???) pumps... Someone else will have to get the name right for me... :)
this must be some kind of new metal halide pump.:D sorry buzz, it just hit me as funny.

Buzz is right iwaki's are great for this purpose. with that much head pressure it looks like the MD-55RLT would almost do it, but the MD-70RLT or the MD-100RLT would easily push this.

also the Velocity Titanium T4 would be an exellent choice if noise is an issue. i have a mag 12 and i am getting rid of it because of noise.

I used to run a Mag12 then replaced it with a Ampmaster 2100. The ampmaster is quieter and does a much better job. The mags start out great but in my experince they can't handle the head pressure over an extended period of time. I had about 8-10 feet of head on my system and the Mag 12 started to die after less than a year.
