Low PH Level

Hello All,

I am new to the hobby and just started a 28G (JBJ Nano Cube). It has been running for a week with live sand and I just introduced live rock yesterday. My concern right now is that my PH level would not go above 7.8-8.0. Can anyone provide me with some suggestions on raising my PH? I tried the Kent "buffer" for three days and it hasn't seemed to work. Another concern is that the water level in the back back chambers is kinda low but the tank remains topped off. I am running an Remora AquaC Skimmer in addition to the stock filtration with a Maxi-Jet 1200 (could this be the reason) and it gets kinda loud when the water gets pulled from the pump. Any help for this Noob would be greatly appreciated.

Sodium Bicarbonate= Baking soda, about 1 teaspoon per 100 gallons...
are you using a meter or a dye test kit?
