Ok I know there are a million posts about lighting n Ive been looking for quit some time but cant come up with what to use. I want to light a 75 gallon tank 48 long 21 deep I will most likely keep softies . mh's not really an option for me cause of heat. I was thinkin about t-5 but really dont know how many or anything. Ill be posting my build soon, thanks again

T5's are a good choice for softies. Sounds like a 4 foot, 6bulb T5 hood should do nicely. or if money is no object, led lighting is sweet.

As stated above, a nice 6 bulb T5 fixture with individual reflectors for each of the bulbs will do well for you.

i love this site ive been on another one for aweek with vo responses this one shows up every time i search anything thanks for the quick replies, im a diy guy were should i start as far as buying the t5 eqp.. so far i got the tank a 29 g sump a octopus 150 a maag 9.5 and a ro unit from bulf reef supply that looks sweet. Im builing my tank in the wall and behind it is a utly room so i love it. any way im half in the bag now its my bday sun but One q ? t5 or VHO i really have no idea but i i can learn

T5HO all the way. You can start by visiting ReefGeek. All the DIY lighting stuff for our tanks that you could ask for

Heck yeah, with DIY you may be able to fit even more bulbs over the tank. :thumbup:

I'd say 8,but if you go with T5HO then 6.

48 inch T5 bulbs are going to be 54 watts each. I would fit as many of them as you have room, and your budget allows, with the individual reflectors for each bulb. I would think you might be able to fit 8 bulbs without too much difficulty.
