Last night at the meeting it seems that there are several fish stores in the Atlanta area that I haven't been to. So far my searching has been limited to using the phone book and the web, those work well but only if the store decides to advertise of has a good amount of word of mouth. Is there a list of stores that carry saltwater fish and inverts beside the sponsor list on the ARC website? I live in Buckhead but don't mind driving for a good store. Here are the stores I know about and which ones I have been to.

I have been to the stores below:

Cappuccino Bay in Marietta
Marine Fish in Marietta
Atlantis Aquarium in Marietta
Pets Unlimited in Marietta
The Fish Store in Buckhead
Aquarium Showcase in Alpharetta
Imagine Ocean in Canton

I know of but haven't visited:
Under The Wave in Duluth

Are there any other good stores that I am missing? Names and phone numbers would really help out. Thanks.

The Aviarium in Duluth
Petland in Duluth and Dunwoody
Critter Crazy in Dunwoody (Just got a new fish guy that is good)
Fish Garden in Newnan (I drove way out of my way for that one and I loved it, the only person I know that had Southdown in town too.)
Picesis Pets in Newnan I think.

For the record, the Board of Directors is actively discussing putting either a map of the sponsor stores and/or a map of all known area stores on the Club web site. The question at the moment is whether or not we'll alienate our sponsor stores by naming non-sponsor stores on the Club site.

The gist of the conversation is that the BoD has to balance the benefit of having a more exhaustive list of local stores against the direct benefit of the support of our sponsor stores. We're in the process of contacting our sponsors to see what feelings they have on the subject and we'll go from there.

Anyway, now ya know. :)

One suggestion might be to list them all, but somehow highlight the sponsor stores (e.g., top of the list, bold, flashing, neon, banners, etc).

You know, just today I was thinking about running over to a closer non-member store to buy some salt and look around (e.g. most likely buy other stuff too). But decided I'd wait and go this weekend to a sponsor store to get the discount and show support. This geographically closer store is nice in a pinch, but when I have the opportunity I do go to the sponsor stores.

BTW, last time I used the real yellow pages (book form) many of the stores were out of business or couldn't be found (address was a residence on one of them). I spent an entire afternoon one weekend driving around Atlanta trying to find decent shops. This was before knowing about ARC of course.

Basically Atlanta and surrounbding areas.

To briefly summerize a sponsor member agrees to give the club members 10% off most items (there are a few excepts).

For their generosity the club gives the sponsor a few benefits --- the biggest one being the ability to e-mail our members when having sales and such. We also actively try and get our members to support the sponsor stores and most will go a little out of their way to do just that instead of the LFS just down the street.

We currently have over 80 paid members.

Are you an employee or owner of a LFS ????

If so and your interested in being a sponsor member please PM or e-mail me with your store info (your name, store name, addr, phone). I will have someone call you and give you all the details.

You can eliminate wasted trips by calling them first :D

Plenty of my customers find me by way of FAMA, and Google searches - many shops have websites (but not all...).

I get lots of calls for directions/hours - saves people from showing up when I'm closed.

Glenn, we'd love to have you on board with the ARC -- Glenn is in Athens - if we have a sponsor in Newnan, I think Athens is close enough to the metro ;)

Look forward to seeing you come aboard, Glenn!

Very true! most lfs's do have websites... Working with one now that will soon have a few AWESOME capibilities on it.. Stay tuned!!

As for the yellow pages, good resource but unless they place hair listing within the correct heading it could be difficult and time consuming to find them. Some are in pets and other in aquariums and other listed elsewhere.

Best recomendation, find a good store that you like and stick with them. If they offer good support and quality products you can bet you have a win-win situation on your hands..

My personal fav is Capp Bay.. Good prices and great service!! Cannot be beat

If you want a list of all the LFS --- it's called the yellow pages.

Use the one on-line --- plenty of stores listed.
Be nice! Seems to me he was just looking for feedback from the people most likely to have been to these stores. Certainly no harm in sharing information among members about positive experiences.

For what it's worth, we are only too happy to visit Jenn's store, even though we live over 1 1/2 hours away. We first visited her store because of the positive feedback we read on this board. Granted, she's a sponsor, but we visited her because of the great comments. VERY accurate comments, I might add--we've never been treated better!!

I have to agree, I've visited Jenns store even before she was a sponsor and it only takes me between 2 1/2 - 3 hours to get there... :) It was definately worth the trip. I've also been to CBA as well as to Marine Fish and I've enjoyed going to all of them. I still haven't made it to Aquarium Showcase although I think I really should try and get up there, maybe before the next meeting... I frequent The Fish Garden, but then again it's the closest of all of them.
