I am building a 125 gallon reef tank that is 6' long, 22" high. I'm likely going to build my own LED fixtures from rapidLED but I'm wondering, is there a common rule regarding the length of the fixture vs the length of the tank? Should my fixture go end wall to end wall or should/can there be a gap on each end? I will use 20" heats sinks from rapid or the alternative is a 6' heat sink from Heatsinks USA.
Just wondering! I'm guessing the layout of the coral will have some impact on this as well.

How is your project comming? You should be good with three 20" heat sinks. The light comes down in a cone. Probably you ordered 60deg lenses. Even if you have less light at sides, probably is not going to be noted with the naked eye. And always there are corals that need less light, right?
