Anyone know what this is? It comes out of a very small hard tube, of which there are more of. There are about 4 total on the stems of my candy cane frag. It releases these long strings and then retracts them, eating the junk that the sticky string collects I'm guessing. Looks like some sort of worm to me.

Is it dangerous?

This is the hard tube that the mucous string comes out of from the front:

I was trying to post it so you could enlarge the picture. Don't know how to do that or delete posts yet. If you want to see the full sized picture just check my images, it's in there.

vermetid snail are the coil with a tube sometimes you can see the coil of the shell, others its buried in the rock. (Immobile snail)

spionid worm are tube with a couple feelers that extend.

Odds are you have the snail version very common. They spool out a tether and let it collect food from the water column then pull it in and eat what stuck to it. Pods ect.

Overall harmless but the string can irritate corals sometimes. Usually as nutrient levels go do much like algae control most won't live long or spread much more due to no food. Breaking their tube does not kill them, they recoil into the rock/shell. Also careful the ends of their tubes are super sharp! Most cap the snails over with super glue or putty which works usually. Their impossible to erraticate it seems but most of the time as you get better at keeping the tank cleaner it really cripples them.
