Just curious to see how common this practice is. I'm always interested in self-sustainable hobbies, and a starter set from e-Bay is $50.

I know I don't have an insane amount of fish, but would love the idea of feeding my fish well....also, I've been toying with the idea of breeding some crustaceans (my Opae'Ula and maybe Sexy) and rotifers are a must.

I've not had to grow my own because locally we have a product called Reef Stew that I buy. It's something a local clown breeder uses to feed his stock and which he sells to all of our local fish stores.

I just dumped a 1000 mls in my tank on Friday.

So...I answered no to your question...but for those who don't have a great local resource like I do, I think growing your own is a great idea. It does a lot for corals and fish in my experience.

Yeah we have a 55gal acrylic breeder tank gifted to us by my father- I figured I could easily rig up something useful. Maybe even try and sell some like TCamos' reef stew. Our LFS is great and would most likely help spread the word!
