Is it ok if i turn off the hob filter when the lights r on cause it makes small anoying bubbles ?

If it is not circulating water it is becoming stagnant or septic, lowering the dissolved oxygen content in the water.

Get some powerheads to get the deitrus in the water columns where the skimmer can reach it

Take the next few nights and do abunch of reading, that will help the most.
There's many ways to set up a reef tank, but some ways are easier than others.

Definitely don't turn off the hob. The bubbles only annoy you most likely.. (the tank inhabitants probably don't mind)

Can I ask why you can't raise the water level?

I recently took off my HOB filter and I'm running my tank with only the skimmer. I've noticed that I'm getting less algae. Everything I'm reading about the filter being a nitrate factory is true. I think you'll be happy if you remove it. Just keep up with regular water changes and you will be ok.
