Dear readers,
I am GlennF from Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

I like to introduce mij tank in here

It's a mixed reef with about 180 species of corals and invertebrates living all together. This include discosomas, soft corals, lps, nps and feather stars.

It's (3 sides) free standing / look through / room divider tank.

So ... the clamps have been removed and the doors have been hung up. I like it this way. Practical and no loose panels that get in the way.

If I watch my tank for 2.5 minutes, all the stress just flows away.

The first pruning is a fact.
The green and red monti plates had completely taken over the left side. I couldn't reach anything anymore and changing the PF became a real hassle. It also became a challenge to ensure a good flow.

Fascinating! The recovery proces of corals.
These acropora formosa (green bali slimer, green staghorn) were put through a stress test which make it expelled some/all zooxanthelle.

These corals recovered completely and are now in full growth.

This was the starting point:

One of the classic pastel colored corals.
Some hate them because:
  • They can overtake the tank.
  • or they can't keep the colors bright pink.
  • or they keep dying on them
  • or they are "too common"

I love them because they are easy and just beatifull!

That bird nest is nice. Love seeing colonies fill in a tank.

Thanks, so do I.
Pruning are often necessary to prevent tankcrashes.

AMAZING?
Due to a faulty phosphate test the Phosphate level has been ramped up to 0,90ppm!
Normaly i would target PO4 at 0,03-0,06ppm

Some Acropora's are more beautifull than ever!
Is this the way to go?

Well, you can lower the numbers and check reaction. Then you can adjust them till you find the sweet spot where everything looks the best.

I surely will do that. Normaly i target 0,04-0,06ppm. I expect to lose some sps in this proces, because i did lose some becauase of these elevated levels.
Never blindly trust testing kits! Even if you have been using them for years they can fail you. Especially if they changed the formula.

A lot of people around here have found you get better coral color if you don’t go ultra low on nutrients.
