After moving and downsizing I am finally ready to upsize again to a rimless 60 gal cube with external overflow. The tank is being made right now by Planet Aquariums out of Dallas (I hear nothing but great things). I've made a 3D model to get an idea of the system and will update as I get the exact dimensions of the overflow etc to plan.

I'm planning on going for a mixed reef with lots of easy to care for faster growing SPS like plating and encrusting montis. So here's the list of equipment I am considering (some items are running on my current tank):

Tank and Ligting

  • Planted Aquariums Custom Rimless 60 Gal. Cube (24x24x24) with external overflow (going to run a herbie style drain)
  • Trigger Systems Ruby20c Sump (20x20x15)
  • Maxspect R420R 120W (16000k)*
  • DIY Stand (3/4 in. Plywood, will cover later)
Flow/Filtration

  • Jebao DC6000
  • 2 Ecotech Marie Vortech
  • Reef Octopus Classic 110 Space Saver
  • BRS Dual Reactor
Electronics/Top Off/Dosing

  • Neptune Apex Controller*
  • Tunze Osmolator 3155*
  • BRS Two-Part Dosing*
  • Eheim Jager 200W
* Already in Current Nano Setup

Really excited about this tank. Can't wait till it comes home. Trigger Systems Sump came in. Excite that it is already bigger than the Nuvo 16 that I have had for the last year and a half.

More progress, still need to do some sanding. That thing is rock solid. Even though I'm a structural engineer I think I overdid it. Better safe than sorry. ;)

Here is the primed stand. I am going to go with stainless steel skin and a concrete counter top on it. I think it fits me well I do research on these materials.

I did a little load test...each angle is 25 lbs. This is 1300 lbs on the stand. We're good. Haha. I figure the tanks and all will be under 650 lbs.

Tank is in! Looks great!

Compared to my current setup...

The cats like it.

Concrete countertop I made over the weekend.

The finish is pretty good! A little stain, may come out with time.

The formwork

powerstrip added on.

Sorry! Unfortunately I found a crack in the tank. It was hard to see without a light. On the back side with the black vinyl coating. They are rebuilding. I am waiting for the new tank!

Thanks for asking!
