I am wanting to keep SPS and Clams in my new tank, but I know there are some things out there that feed on them. Ive done lots of reading on the SPS but I haven't found much on clam predators. Anything I should avoid in my clean-up crew when I am starting out that my cause my clam problems down the road?

Thanks Danielle I have always wanted one but I was always told "I don't have what it takes to keep it happy" but hopefully this time will be different!

I have heard of clams closing up in thier owners tanks, but as soon as you put the clam in another persons tank it opens up like it has never opened up before.....what would cause this?

WOAH WOAH WOAH...are you telling me I might have to set up a tank for EACH clam.... just so I can get some variety? that is crazy......

What if I just get a clam, keep it awhile, then when I am ready for a new clam I just ignore the old one till it goes away?

Wow, you mean you can turn a profit on your clams, and at the end of the day they are still there for you to enjoy also? This I gotta know more about.

Ok, I know that clams get diseases, but I have seen what seem to be perfectly healthy clams look good for years...then oneday I will come home and there are crabs all over the clam. How can this happen....I haven't been home all day, and "I" didn't add anything to the tank?

Thanks Stoney.

Hey I am surfing the net for pictures of clams, and have noticed something.

A few of these have hair algea all over them, others just have a patch or two, and some don't have any at all...its this because of the tank parameters, owner preference or just species?

hmm.....funny that must be most peoples preference. Most of the sights I found had TONS of pictures of really really "natural" ones, but if you wanted to see the rest you had to "register" and they asked for credit card numbers.

Ok,
Another question for you guys. Like I said most of the clams I have had were either hitchikers or charity cases. I want a really nice clam but every where I go to get one I am expected to pay for it...whats up with that? I am so used to getting the clams for free, is it really worth the money for a good one?

I think I have a problem.

About a week ago I borrowed a buddies clam, to make sure I could make it happy in my tank...well now I am hearing that his clam is reproducing...am I financially responsible to the young?
