My wife and I saw "Finding Nemo" last night. We were the only adults (we are in our late 40's and early 50's) in the theater without kids.

Since we are both avid warm water Scuba Divers and have multiple reef tanks we were very interested to see how they portrayed things in the movie (cartoon).

We were very very impressed with the accuracy of the underwater biology in the ocean scenes. The tank scenes were pretty good also. The biggest flaw was that they used gravel as the base of the saltwater tank instead of sand.

I think we got a lot more out of it because of our backgrounds then the kids did. But the kids loved it. We really, really loved it. Not only for the underwater stuff but the humor, story, voices, etc were extreamly well done. I think it was one of the best movies I have seen in decades.

You should all see it (even if you don't have any kids to take)

I can't wait until it comes out in DVD and I can watch it over and over.

Don't know if you guys know this person or the "board that shall go unnamed" But a fella named Dwayne on another board had "diver dan" the plastic scuba man in his tank for years...I think he kept him in back where you couldn't see him, but pulled him to the front for occassional pictures.....it was hilarious to see this corraline covered plastic diver....never had the bubbles hooked up to him, but still very funny.......

i STILL have diver dan, and his treasure chest :)

but i've never put him in my sw tank. had him in a fw for my kid a while back.

i jsut saw something at petco the other day.. laser lights for your tank!

they have treasure chest, and lighthouses, and a few other things. runs on an airbubbler to make the items move/turn. and shoots out a continuous red laser beam!

the only thing i didnt like about it was that the packageing claims that it "increases fish health" as if they are saying the laser does something to the water... whatever....

but it sure did make me think about the scum master :)

I, shamefully, admit that I allowed my kids and husband to put one of those laser lighhouses in our tank. . . I know the whole "increases fish's health" is crap, but my dominoe sure like to play with the light. . . :)

Well, what can I say, I had the lighthouse. I enjoyed it too. When the rest of my rock went in, it came out. I must admit though I came out one day to the laser mirror covered in snail eggs. I got about 5 new snails out of it. Maybe that laser did something after all.

Jay,

Alas, it is not my tank. It is someones 55 gallon in Charleston, SC. And tho I am a firm believer in Atlantis I think recreating it in your SW Tank is asking for problems besides the rath of the gods that sunk it in the first place. ;)

Digital_dragon...I will admite, I have very seriously putting something small along the lines of the greek columns in my tank. Just cause I love atlantis. So, I seriously thought about it, but havn't done it. :)

If I found some really cool columns that were safe I'd tuck them in a few strategic places in my tank :D Maybe I'll change the backround of my tank to that one with the underwater temple :)

OK - Now that I've stimutlated your thinking. Here is a serious question that I thought of as I was leaving the movie.

Do you think that the movie will make kids think that having fish in a tank is mean?????

nope. that part is gonna skip right over hte younger ones imo. it's only going to make them wanna run out and get thier own nemo and dory.

which is why we have things like the incident at petsolutions, and various others that will no doubt pop up.

and btw: i have the utmost respect for petsolutions removing the movie star package due to our letters. i think that shows a lot of responsibility on their parts. lack of plannign in the beginning, but at least they were willing to correct it. and fast too!

I think it looks cool having human junk inside your reef tank. After all there are sunken ships, cities and structures in the sea. Why not in a reef tank? That acropolis/greek/atlantis tank looks cool.
