I have a 30 gallon reef tank and I was wondering what the best dwarf angel is for me. I definitely want on in my tank and the ones I heard are good to have are the coral beauty, flame angel, and pygmy cherub angel. So far I have two ocellaris clowns and two firefish gobies. PLEASE HELP

I have a flame angel and he's a bit of a bear. Bugs my coral and sometimes is aggressive towards my other fish. This is in a 55 gallon. All fish are different though so you could have better luck. I doubt know for sure but I believe the coral beauty or the cherub would be a better option. This would be especially true where you have firefish which are very peaceful. Once the angel is comfortable you might have problems. The cherub is the smallest and I think is a pretty peaceful fish.

hi. i found that the coral beauty is more of a peaceful fish against the flame angel, i have both and the flame just keeps bugging all, mainly the coral beauty, both were introduced at same time too, the coral angel just plods around minding his own business most of time. 125g tank

Can I get these fish in a 30 gal.

I got a new 30 gallon nano cube (18" x 22" x 22") with 2 ocellaris clownfish, and 2 firefish and they are really compatible. Could I get a coral beauty (priority), blue spot jawfish, royal gramma, and a green mandarin? I'm willing to take a challenge and I am committed to being able to do anything I can in order to keep them alive. On top of this would it be a good idea to get a cleaner shrimp?

No yes yes and no. Mandarins need massive amounts of copicodes which a 30 will not make enough to sustain. Coral beauty needs at least a 70. The royal gramma and blue spot will fit a 30 but will overstock your tank considering its at full capacity already.

Ok thanks I will look into some dwarf angels. Do you have any recommendations or experience with a dwarf angel species?
Is this a reef? They are a hit or miss in reefs. Some will be model citizens, and others will be monster coral eaters.

Flamebacks and pygmys only get 3" long, and would be perfect for your tank. Though, I am kind of in love with flame angels.

Live aquaria tend to underrate the tank size for most fish. That means if it says 70g, in reality, 100g would be much better. Plus, we really need to factor in footprint over overall volume. 18x22 is not a big or even medium footprink tank. You need a longer "run" as 28 inches from each diagonal corner is less than what a fish can do in a 20L.

I would not really consider a pygmy angel for a 30g long term.

I think that 2 clowns and 2 firefish are your limit for this tank and I would not stock it with anymore fish. More fish could mean that Sudden Mass Death syndrome will be lurking.

Get the bigger tank first

Really? I know someone who has the same tank as me and has a lemon peel that seems to be fine. He has more time than me to spare but I'm going to try committing myself. I'll try a dwarf angelfish and if something happens I could return it I think

Can they be kept for a time in a smaller tank, yes. Should they be kept in a smaller tank already on the bio-load cliff, definitively not.

I have kept larger fish in smaller tanks before, but there is a point in which it must be a temporary consideration and "planning to upgrade" at a undefined point in the future is not a proper plan.

It is not just the size of the fish, it is their swimming range and activity level. Angels do need larger tanks and unless there is 4 feet of space, it is tough to provide proper environments.
