I'm interested in building my own led lighting system. Q: I have a 10g nano,how do I know what wattage of bulbs to use. I have soft ,lps and sps corals.

My tank dimentions are 20" x 10" x 12"

Nope, no formula to it really. You can go with a wider reflector so you spread the light more... for instance, use a 90* reflector optic instead of a 60*. This spreads the beam of light out to make it less intense. You will want to go with at least 3w LEDs... I'm not really up to snuff on the ins and outs of the different Bins and manufacturers, but there are others who are. I would search on here for LEDs and see what you come up with, there have been a few discussions concerning them as well as a few links to other DIYers threads.

Ive been doing a lot of reading ,just cant find out a rule of thumb like watts
per gal. Im going to use Cree leds . Just dont want to little or to much power.

I would think about 5 white and 5 blues would be more than enough for the tank in reality...

I was thinking about the same , six ea. 3 watt of coarse.
