:bigeek: Horrors! About a month or so ago I got a good shipment from them, though I think some inhabitants ate the weakest/smallest of the pepps :( As I recall, they do have a $$ back plan, complete with instructions on what to do with the dead critters.

I'm so very sorry about your loss, mkurgan. I know how excited you were about getting them :(

Hrm... I just got a shipment from them and everything arrived in great condition... even the torch coral.
Of course I live in California, and they ship out of Hawthorne, CA so that could also be a factor.
Sorry to hear of your losses though... at least they have a good guarantee policy... just make sure you collect the specimens before your cleanup crew does.

Just out of curiosity, why order such common/inexpensive fish when they can be found at most LFS's? All the stores around me, all of them, will order anything I might want, then you are guaranteed a live fish.

Sorry to hear about the dead fish, though. Good luck getting it straightened out.

i think its not uncommon for things to die in shipment. i highly doubt that LA packed dead fish and shipped them to you.

my guess is that it's common, which is why they havea live guarantee. if its dead, or dies within x amount of days they will replace it and make the order right.

i've never ordered fish yet from them or anyone else. but i would wait until they contact you back. i'm sure they'll fix the order for you. least i would hope they would.

sorry the stuff died on you :(

We've always been very careful here at TRT about giving companies a chance to make things right before being publicly dragged through the coals. They have a guarantee and they should honor it. Unfortunately losses happen when shipping fish. Give the company a chance to right the wrong.

Thanks-
Brooke

mkurgan,
Give Liveaquaria a chance, it may not have even been their fault. Your stuff could've been dropped several times, left in a 90 degree truck overnight, or any other number of things (freight companies don't exactly have the best reputation with live animals). If they don't make it right after you've followed their return process then get upset and let us know. I shipped some lights several weeks ago that arrived in NY a couple of days later with all 4 pc bulbs broken and the package looked like a truck ran over it. I am working with the freight company to try to right somebody's incompetence but I haven't received any money for the bulbs yet.

i'll vouch for that. my brother in law is a manager at our local fedex ground hub.

he said i would not belive the way packages are loaded and unloaded. they are thrown out of the trucks onto the converyor belts. if they get to the end of the belt and the splitter (human) isnt there at the moment, and lots of packages are there, half of them fall three feet to the floor after they traffic jam with each other.

unfortunatley he said fedex isnt unique. they are all the same (fed ex, fedex ground, ups, usps) he said that's just the way shipping is. everything is about speed, and speed means things get thrown and or dropped.

now if i were a tiny fish in a plastic bag in a dark box being thrown dropped kicked and heated up.. i wouldnt last long either.

i'm not defending liveaquaria, as i have never bought form them as stated before, but i do believe in giving them a chance to make it right.

i hear their name a lot. and good things. i dont think theyd have that good rep by having a igh ratio of dead critters.

You might want to try saltwaterfish .com then if you order $75 the shipping is free with live aquaria you have lost the shipping fees you paid they dont replace that.

my night job is at UPS in one of our biggest hubs. i see everynight backages falling not 3, but 50 feet, also people throwing packages. im not saying that liveaquaria shipped dead fish, i know they died on the way. but i'm talking about the ones that DID make it to my home safely. i spent about $150 and what do i have 1 green chromis and some snails. if they would give me new fish(shipped for free) then i would be satisfied. they will give me a refund-that does me know good paying $25 shipping for 1 chromis and some snails/hermits.

the ones that did make it to you live. were still under unbeleivable stress. imo that's why they died after the fact. the stress of the shipping, compounded with the stress of being added to a new tank.

i'd be PO'd too if i were you. 25 for 1 green chromis is otrageous. have you talked to someone at LA or jsut emailed?

personally i would call and explain the situation, and request a refund, or credit, and free shipping on the replacement and or free shipping on next order, or shipping refunded as well.

i cant say what they'll do, never ordered from them, but i'm betting they would come to some sort of common ground with ya

If you paid with a credit (not debit) card you have 60 days to dispute the charge if you didn't get what you ordered or something is wrong with what you bought. Give it a try. There is a radio consumer advisor here in Atlanta that always recommends making purchases by credit card for that extra protection, then paying it off at the end of each month. Let us know how it works out.

I've never ordered livestock from ANY online store, but after reading liveaquaria.com's "10-day Guarantee", I would say that they will probably do right... their entire guarantee is written out very plainly, even going so far as to listing the exact species that are exempt from the guarantee. They also state exactly how to proceed if livestock arrives dead, dies afterwards (different procedures).

Follow their procedures, if they don't make good (to their stated guarantee, not to your DESIRED ideas of right) then come here and complain... until then, I don't think it is right of anyone to come in and badmouth a company that has not been given a fair chance to follow thru on their guarantee.

PS. They state that they will cover the purchase price of the dead livestock, not the shipping.
