Hey guys
I have heard of certain damsel fish being peaceful, is this true? I would like to keep a damsel because of their color, but im afraid of them killing my clowns. Thanks

I have heard that you should only keep 2 clowns in a tank. But I may be wrong which 9 out of 10 times am. :D I would get Green Chromis. They are so call but make sure you get about 4-6. They are school fish. I still have 1 damsel in my tank and he knows better then to mess around with my clowns. He minds his own buisness. When I had a couple of them in there, thats when they are little A-holes....

It's not so much them growing huge as territory issues. (Although some of them do get big.) For the most part, unless you have a huge tank, one mated pair of clowns is the best most folks can manage. I'm actually surprised your 3 are getting along and haven't killed each other yet.

I agree with Doug - don't add damsels. Chromis might be an option, though. (Damsels are mean, ornery fish. PITA, really. Wouldn't recommend them, considering the weath of other, colorful peaceful fish out there.)

Just to give you a idea of what kind of damage a damsel can do here’s a pic of my yellow tang that was tormented by a Fiji blue devil damsel. I was never able to catch the ***** until I re-worked my tank (switch from crushed coral to Southdown) I took him & two other damsels back to the LFS that told me to use them to cycle my tank  The LFS forgot to tell me that they were aggressive & I would not be able to catch them after the tank cycled
BTW the yellow tang is doing fine & even starting to grow some of the fin back

I'll stick up for the green chromis. I have a few in my tank and they cause me no problems. They are a blast to watch, as they dart everywhere. Everything I have seen says that they are a different temperment than other damsels, and this is true in my experience.

I would expect that from a Fiji Blue Devil, They are a pretty mean fish.

I disagree with most of what is posted. A 75 gallon with a fair amount of live rock can hold 3 assorted clowns with out much trouble normally. As normal their are exceptions. The problems usually arise when you put 2 of the same type of clowns in that mix. Yours are all three different clowns.

As for Damsels. If your tank has a fair amount of LR you can add 2 Yellow Tail Blue damsels or One Allen's Damsel to you tank. That will give you the blue color most get damsels for and since your clowns were there first, there will in most cases not get injuried by the new Damsel(s).
