Closed Loop Bulkhead...Plumbing ?

I have my CL Drain 1" bulkhead near the bottom of my tank about 6 inches from bottom, I am going to put a strainer on this drain. I am curious if it would be better to use a threaded fitting or a slip for this strainer? If I go threaded I would not put teflon tape but just screw it in. What would be better?
